Wastewater Department

Established in the 1930s, the mission of the New Richmond WWTP is to protect the City’s interests and the environment by staying in compliance with E.P.A. and Wisconsin D.N.R. regulations most cost-effectively.

The City’s Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP) treats on average 720,000 gallons per day of wastewater generated in the City of New Richmond. Our daily capacity is just under 1,000,000 gallons. The wastewater is treated for the removal of solids, organic material, nutrients, and pathogens before being discharged to the Willow River. The treatment process consists of a grit channel with screening, primary clarification, secondary clarification, chemical phosphorus removal, single-stage activated sludge process, and ultraviolet disinfection. Our discharge limits are determined by E.P.A. and Wisconsin D.N.R..
