High School Students Receive Scholarships

Amber O’Flanagan is the winner of the New Richmond Utilities’ Public Power Scholarship for high school students and Jared Ellevold was awarded a New Richmond Utilities’ scholarship for students seeking a career as an electric lineworker.

The $1000 Public Power Scholarship is presented to a high school senior who plans to attend a two-year technical college or a four-year university. The scholarship program is designed to promote awareness of New Richmond’s community-owned utility, increase awareness of the value of public power, and to inform customers about the benefits of their community-owned municipal utility.

To be eligible, students or their parents or guardians must be customers of New Richmond Utilities. Applicants are judged on a variety of criteria, including their work on an essay titled, “Our Community Connection: The Value of Our Municipal Utility,” academic and extracurricular achievement, work and volunteer experience, and future career goals.

Amber O’Flanagan who is a recent graduate of New Richmond High School, will attend WITC to study Early Childhood Education.

The $500 lineworker scholarship is designed to encourage local youth to become trained electric lineworkers and to promote awareness of New Richmond’s community-owned utility.

To be eligible for the New Richmond Utilities’ lineworker scholarship, students should be planning to attend an Electrical Power Distribution program at a technical college in Wisconsin, Michigan or Iowa.

Jared Ellevold who is a recent graduate of New Richmond High School, will attend Dunwoody College of Technology to study Electrical Construction and Maintenance.

The awards were presented at the New Richmond High School awards ceremony on May 23.
